Beginning Jewelry Making – Evenings – Spring 2024

$345.00

Description:

In this 6 week course we will accommodate students of all skill levels. Beginning students will learn basic jewelry fabrication techniques including sawing, filing, sanding, soldering, riveting and finishing. Intermediate students will progress with a stone setting and chain making curriculum. Skills taught in this course can be applied to a variety of jewelry forms including rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more. Students may repeat the course working more independently under the guidance of the instructor. Limit 8 students. Classes meet 3 hours once a week. Cost: $345, most materials included.

Instructor Bio:

Friday Hynek is an interdisciplinary artist who has a deep passion for metalsmithing. After focusing on wire work for eight years, she became more interested the processes of forming, forging, and soldering. This led her to seek further education in the metals program at Wayne State University. Friday enjoys creating conceptual works and ornamental, wearable jewelry. Her conceptual pieces are biographical in nature, examining events that have shaped her life. Friday has been a studio technician and workshop assistant at Wayne State University for five years. She loves introducing new students to metalwork, and helping more advanced students further develop their skills.
