A good railing should elevate an architectural environment. In terms of function, they are often critical or required elements. Their form should be harmonious to their context and their construction should be congruent with their beauty. Smith Shop’s meticulous design process ensures that our railings are breathtaking in their form, function, and beauty—no matter their style or application.

Our interior projects cover a wide range of items from screens, gates, doors and room separators to kitchen applications including stove hoods, metal counter tops and pot racks. Our interior works are often the show stopping focal point of a room, so we approach every project with serious design that allows the object to complete and elevate an interior environment.

Hardware

Smith Shop executes custom interior and exterior hardware projects for commercial and residential applications. Our expert metalsmiths work in ferrous and non-ferrous metals creating truly unique small batch and one-of-a-kind hardware through forging, fabrication, and machining.

Lighting

Smith Shop executes inspired interior lighting projects including chandeliers, sconces, pendants, table lamps, and floor lamps. Our exterior work ranges from lamp posts to complex outdoor lighting systems. Our lighting projects combine exquisite metalwork with innovative and modern electrical components. While lighting can sometimes be an afterthought, our projects have proven that effective and beautiful lighting can be the difference between a “space” and a “sanctuary.”

garden

Our garden projects are perhaps our favorite. Gardens have the ability to seamlessly incorporate a wide range of forms from sculptures and architectural follies, to seating and furniture, to trellises, pergolas, and green houses. The ability to blend the constructed with the natural creates an opportunity to harmoniously bring together dissimilar elements. Whether a formal and manicured European garden, or a stylized and meditative Japanese garden there are exciting possibilities for metalwork.

Screens + Grilles

Perhaps the most iconic use of architectural and ornamental ironwork is in grilles and screens. Grilles are a network of decorative metal forms joined to create a barrier. Historically, they were made for security, but over the centuries have become the canvas for artistic expression since their form can be so varied. Smith Shop has made grilles and screens for doors, fireplaces, ovens, cabinets, heating registers, permeable room dividers, and various other interior and exterior applications.
