Wrought Iron DOOR PULLS

Project Brief

A client was looking for a simple and elegant set of door pulls for rolling french doors in their lake house. We matched the design to fit with their asian-modern decor. Smith Shop choose to use wrought iron for added texture and character, while using smooth steel to create a keyed frame. The pull were finished with an oil rubbed finish. The results speak for themselves.

exterior Hardware

Project Brief

A boutique developer in Corktown, Detroit restored a late 19th century 3-story brick building with a restaurant on the ground floor and two stories of loft apartments above. Smith Shop was commissioned to make forged and fabricated bronze hardware for the restaurant’s front door, vestibule door, side door, and patio door, as well as two entrance doors (double-sided) for the apartments. Each piece of door hardware included an escutcheon or push plate. The hardware was finished with an oil rubbed finish. Smith Shop delivered and installed the hardware on time and on budget.

Ornate exterior door Pulls

Project Brief

A hotelier in Downtown Detroit commissioned these patinated stainless steel door pulls for their newly renovated hotel. The historic building featured gothic revival details, and the pulls reflect the building’s architecture with their inlaid corkscrew twist shafts, crenelated fittings, and pointed escutcheon plates. Push plates are mounted on the interior of the massive 11 1/2 foot doors. The exterior push plates are hand engraved with Roman numerals corresponding to the year of the renovation, while the interior push plates are engraved “push”. Smith Shop designed, forged, fabricated, and installed these 18 inch tall pulls and mounting plates.

INdustrial Door hardware

Project Brief

After renovating old slaughter house along the Detroit River into a mixed use development, a private client sought to repurpose steel clad fire doors for use in a luxury apartment within the development. Smith Shop designed hardware that was sympathetic to the mechanical, functional, and industrial feeling of the architecture. This project included the creation of steel frames to mount the doors along with the creation working mechanisms to latch the doors. Smith Shop designed, fabricated, patinated, and installed the hardware and doors.

Project Brief

A boutique developer restored a late 19th century, 4-story brownstone in mid-town Detroit from near ruin to become a unique residential and hotel development. Smith Shop created unique handmade branded signage for all the apartments and rooms in the building. Smith Shop also create historic railings for this project.
